Maverick

Maverick was born in the spring of 2005 and shortly thereafter suffered a devastating injury to his hind leg.

Pain and terror were soon increased as both he and his mother were transported to the kill pen to wait for the slaughter truck to come and turn their innocent lives into a meal for a foreigner's palate.

Shaking and afraid, Maverick leaned on his strong and steady mother.

A trailer did come and pick them up and Maverick's mom told him to remain strong and brave no matter what. She promised him that God would protect them and all would be well.

She had her doubts and fears as well, but being such a brave young girl, she also had a deep seated strength. The trailer that picked them up brought them 3000 miles...to freedom in the fields of Bridgehampton.

As Maverick stepped off the trailer and looked around at this big new world, he knew his mom was right,

that he would be fine now, that he could grow and strengthen his leg and find his very own person to love

and help him on his way.
